With a rich heritage of collaboration and performance at some of the nation's most prestigious venues, the FCS Choral Department offers a unique and empowering opportunity for our students. We strive to bring out the very best in all of our students through establishing a strong Christ-centered environment and practicing our department's core values: collaboration, discipline, hard work, empathy, active listening, trying new things, and the appreciation of different cultures, languages, and peoples. A major goal of the department is to prepare our choristers with the skills necessary to make music a lifelong pursuit, whether that be participating in the music departments at their local churches, singing in community choral programs, majoring in music, or just singing for enjoyment.
Choral Ensembles
Cantabile (Junior High Chorale)
Cantabile offers musical performance opportunities for all students in a mixed-choir, SAB (soprano, alto, bass) setting. Students can expect to learn musical fundamentals such as song and performance, vocal technique, music literacy, choral performance practice, and much more. The ensemble performs multiple concerts throughout the academic year and travels locally to participate in competitions, adjudications, community service opportunities/concerts, and other musical opportunities.
FCS Chamber Singers
The premier vocal performing group at Fremont Christian School participates in competitions, festivals, clinics, and adjudications across the state and nation. Consisting of a maximum of 30 high school vocalists, the Chamber Singers performs advanced choral repertoire from multiple time periods and in various languages in a rigorous academic environment. An audition is required to join.
Concert Choir: Camerata
Our non-auditioned choir offers musical opportunities for all high school students to experience the glory of choral music in a vibrant and welcoming Christian environment. As the largest choir in our department, Camerata serves approximately 50-75 students during the academic year, building on the skills learned in Cantabile to take musical repertoire, vocal technique, music literacy, and performance to the next level. Participants can expect to perform music from different cultures, sing in numerous languages, grow in musical knowledge and skill, and travel across the state and nation to perform in some of the nation's top performance venues, which in the past have included Carnegie Hall.
Chapel Music Program
This auditioned ensemble is open to both junior high and high school students who wish to worship the Lord in spirit, truth, and song for our bi-weekly chapel services. Participants both play and sing music in a worship setting, lifting up the name of Jesus in song and praise. Students must demonstrate positive Christian character in love, word, and deed and perform various musical genres such as gospel and contemporary Christian music. Any student who sings or plays an instrument is encouraged to audition.
Notable Concert Choir Trips
Carnegie Hall
For the last few years, on an alternating schedule, the Fremont Christian School High School Concert Choir has performed at New York's Carnegie Hall as a part of the Manhattan Concert Productions Masterworks Festival Chorus. The Festival Chorus is comprised of selected high school and university choirs, community choruses, and church choirs. While on the trip, FCS students typically attend two Broadway shows and take in the sights and flavors of the city.
ACSI Musicale
In the off-years from the New York trip to Carnegie Hall, the Concert Choir travels to Pasadena for the Association of Christian Schools International Senior High Musicale. Joining with other high school choirs from California, students participate in a two-day festival that culminates in a concert featuring all of the 600+ students singing together.
